During two hours of complete darkness, participants are grouped into teams and given a number of tasks to perform. Every participant has the opportunity to serve as a leader and to observe other leaders in action. The tasks are straightforward, yet challenging to accomplish because of the unusual environment. The basic challenges for everyone are:

  • Will I be self-confident in an unfamiliar environment?
  • Will I have the determination to succeed in such an environment?
  • Will I be able to lead the team to create outstanding results?
  • Will I learn from other leaders?

As the workshop unfolds, more challenges surface, testing and stimulating the participant to be increasingly innovative and imaginative. In the process, participants must move out of their comfort zones and begin to tap into the latent potential of their leadership, communication, organizational and crisis-management skills.

The benefits are re-enforced by an extended time for debriefing, reflection and consolidation of learning. After returning to a lit environment, participants share their experiences, observations, surprises, frustrations, learning and especially their insights.
